Tottenham Hotspurs get off the Mark

Spurs got off the mark on Saturday with a trouncing of Derby at White Hart Lane. The 4-0 scoreline flattered the visitors as Spurs could easily have won this 8 or 9 nil. They had a penalty appeal denied and a perfectly good goal disallowed. When will the EPL have the balls to introduce goaline technology and instant video replays to prevent errors like this happening again?

Behind the scenes their are persistent rumours that BMJ (Big Martin Jol) might be on his way out. This would be a blow as the great man has steered Spurs to two 5th place finishes and decent runs in both the UEFA Cup, FA cup and league cup. The club is rumoured to be courting Juande Ramos the current coach of Sevilla; the club that knocked Spurs out of last season UEFA Cup. With Jol being offered the Holland National Coaching role their is no reason to doubt that the club might just have been implementing a contingency plan. The unusual aspect behind all the rumours is that Spurs have spent over £40 million this transfer window and the Spanish Primera Liga is to commence next weekend. If any move was to go ahead you would have expected it to happen earlier than middle of August. The rumours just will not die and are being fueled by the press and the online forums. We shall just have to wait and see; as for me I shall back Spurs and BMJ and should BMJ leave I will be upset and a little disappointed with the clubs lack of patience. We stuck with the club through the Pleat years, let them show the same tolerance we showed.

Still on the topic of Spurs I remain amazed at the treacle pace that the club has moved when trying to upgrade the stadium to atleast a 60,000 seater. With each passing game we are loosing out on revenue and fans are having to resort to video streaming to watch their club. Even with a stadium of 80,000 I believe Spurs would maintain an average capacity of 85% throughout the season. The biggest hurdles are the local council and the truly backward ministry of transport. These bureaucratic behemoths can be overcome as I see almost daily in my job working as a construction systems consultant. Why Spurs have struggled with their negotiations remains a mystery. Again us fans wait with patience for both news and results!
